I also found it rather odd. However, they had a sign next to the door inside stating that the offices are closed on weekends, but officers are on the road 24-7. And they had a payphone near the door to use to call 911 if you needed them.
I am willing to bet that you call Webster PD, they tell you to stop by and pick it up, you stop by and get your balls busted for dropping a mag in the theatre...end of story.

A movie theater manager that is so misinformed(or a prick) that he tells a bold face lie TO YOUR FACE (we HAD to turn it in to the PD) is a "good outcome?"

Damn...hate to see a bad one.

Pete, I will tell you this though: It's amazing the amount of people that never have and never will make any human errors when somebody admits theirs though. (Liars.) I dropped my G26 to the ground a few years ago, forgetting I had laid my shirt on top of it before I got in the hot tub. Posted on here about it. Man, did we have a lot of "experts" come out after that one. But in all reality, it happens. A lost mag really is no big deal. The chances that some nefarious person has access to a gun in the caliber contained within that mag, but simply cannot find the 10 rounds needed to go commit some honorific act..yeah, miniscule.

What movie did you go see? Any good?
The new Sin City in 3D. Compared to the first one, it's just ok and not really worth the extra money to see it in 3D. They kept the 3D subtle for the most part witch I liked at the slow points, but the rest of the time it just reminded me of when I was a kid looking through an old view-master. It just didn't feel as immersive as other 3D movies I've seen lately. Also, a character that died in the first movie is now alive, but she is only on screen for about 30 seconds or so and they had 2 other characters return but with different actors playing the parts. I'm not a fan of actor changes for returning rolls in sequels.

I'm still dying to see it.

Eva Green in B&W with her gorgeous green eyes highlighted? Yes-sir-e-bob.

Called WPD this morning and they didn't ask who I was or anything. They simply told me that the Properties Clerk will have it and I need to set up a time with her to get my mag back. Sounds like I'll be ok, but I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and knocking on all wooden objects.

You will be fine. Contrary to popular belief most police officers are normal people and are not foaming at the mouth to try to find something to charge you with. That is more work for them anyways. Who wants more work???

Exactly! There is nothing illegal in NY (outside of NYC anyway) about purchasing/owning/carrying bullets or a pistol magazine, anybody over the age of 21 can walk into a sporting good store and buy a box of ammo or a handgun magazine. WTF, this hoplophobia and political correctness is getting ridiculious!

Picked up the mag yesterday, after waiting 2 days for the properties clerk to get back to me. I just went in to the department office, showed them my license and permit with the model of firearm that matched the mag they had, signed an evidence release form, and they handed it over. Never said much of anything to me and didn't have to speak with an officer or anything. Overall, quite painless and more worrying than necessary on my part.

Good call OP.

Contrary to many posts, they can in fact trace the mag back to you.. After all, it has your finger prints on it, the same ones you willingly submitted to receive the permit.

With that said, it's probably unlikely that they would go the distance, and it's even more unlikely that they could charge you with anything seeing as how mags and ammunition are not illegal in the theater.
I see actual reported crimes happen where they never dust for prints fwiw

Someone got into my wife's car in the middle of the night and stole her cash, gps, and a couple other things. The police didn't even seem to want to take a report for it, let alone dust for prints or anything.

too much trouble involved. around here, they'll send you a report in the mail if you want to file for something that isn't worth them coming out for. which in some cases is a win-win, but not necessarily always.

I call BS, there were members on here that were sure you would be thrown in jail, have a showdown with SWAT, get sodomized by the Chief of police and end up dead with in seconds of claiming it.

I would have gone back almost as soon as I had realized I lost it there. That would have been after I checked my car thoroughly because I often find things get bumped out of my pocket while entering and exiting my vehicle and I cannot remember any time in my life that a magazine (or anything else) just fell out of my pocket in a movie theater. I'd also check around and under my car and check the lot where I had parked outside the theater too. Then, if the theater was still open, I'd go back that same day; if not open then I'd go there the following day. After all, it would be I my property and I would not want it falling into the hands of a kid who might cause all sorts of mischief with it - just imagine a kid bringing it to school this week and that causing a lockdown and police response. I would not want to be, in any way, even partially responsible for that. Anyway, it would be my property and would do what I thought the responsible thing relative to it. Possibly would have prevented the whole PD thing dependent on your timing.
