Went to the range with my friend today. He brought his brand new, never fired .45 Hi Point carbine along. We couldn't get it to cock. Loaded or not, we couldn't get a single trigger pull. Is there a trick to getting this gun cocked or does he have a lemon? He tried calling Hi Point but they close at 4pm apparently so I figured it was worth asking here for now.

Had one back in the free days. When new it had to be pulled back like you mean it. When you think you pulled the action back far enough you cranked back harder. Once broken in it was fine. Never missed a beat or jammed. Bang every time. Rack it like you want to pull the charging handle out of the back of it.

I had one during the free years , Surprisingly, it was one of the most reliable weapons Ive ever fired!! I had a total of zero malfunctions and zero jams , worked every time. The bad part about it was you had to be dam near a gun smith to rip it apart put it together again and only a few mods. but for the money?? It was a great gun . what about the Ammo??? was the ammo new or old??

Sounds like you locked the bolt (a feature on the hi point carbines I think). I used to have one. It was 100% reliable and a fun range gun. They have sort of a collar on the bolt that can be used to lock the bolt open. Try pulling out on the bolt while pulling it back (if that makes any sense).
