Got an e-mail last night reposted below. Wow, we trusted these people, and they have failed us.

6 THINGS NYSRPA DOES NOT WANT ITS MEMBERS TO KNOW
If you want to support Gun RIghts In New York State, Support the NRA. If you want to support Tom King, Support NYSRPA!

1.) In early 2015, Tom King set himself up as "Executive Director" and President with an annual salary of $90,000 plus payroll taxes paid by NYSRPA of about $3,500. This action ended the NYSRPA's long history of volunteer leadership for what amounts to a part time position with no real, effective oversight of Tom King's activities. Proof can be found at this link on page 7 of the 2015 financial report. (It shows only a partial year salary but his full year is $90,000 plus payroll taxes). See King's signature on the report as well.

2.) In his first 11 months ending December 31, 2014 as a paid "Executive Director", King's lucrative salary helped reduce the NYSRPA's net income to just $17,727 which was a decline of $191,833 compared to the year before. Had King been paid all twelve months of 2015, the NYSRPA would have realized a net income of just $3,881. Judging by the 2015 income statement with member dues of $377,581, almost 25% of membership dues go to Tom King personally. Is one person and Tom King in particular worth nearly 25% of membership dues?

3.) Tom King has repeatedly refused to allow NYSRPA members to see a financial report on the NYSRPA. This is illegal since the NYSRPA files an annual statement with the NYS Charities Buereau and also the IRS. The report is public information. See the above link and ask why King has lied about its supposed "confidentiality". The filing even states that the information is public.

4.) Printing of the Bullet Magazine was recently changed to a new company that Tom King's daughter works for in a major role. Ask him why the printing job was not put out to a sealed competitive bid to several printers. Is this an insider deal?

5.) Insider dealings that benefit NYSRPA Board members. According to the 2015 financial statement (page 11, line 5 and Schedule L, page 2) NYSRPA Board member (and close friend of Tom King) Brian Olesen owed the NYSRPA $11,949 in unpaid advertising expense in the Bullet Magazine for ads he ran for his gun stores. Why can a NYSRPA board member be given what amounts to a loan on advertising fees due NYSRPA when other advertisers must pay up front for their ads? NYSRPA very likely paid sales commissions on these ads and those commissions were paid out of Association funds while Olesen was given a loan to repay his obligations. Worse yet, Olesen's background raises serious question about his fitness for Board membership of the official NRA state affiliate. According to the Times Union newspaper, his prior gun store's FFL was revoked after a criminal investigation and that an illegal silencer and fully automatic weapon were found at the store. The Times Union also reports that Olesen falsified a state dealer's application to Judge Patrick McGrath. See this link:

6.) NYSRPA had cash and securities of $695,485 at December 31, 2015. (See financial statement.) Are fundraising letters from Tom King that seem desperate and ask for funds to fight the SAFE Act disingenuous and thinly disguised fundraisers for him to keep his lucrative salary? Has NYSRPA become the piggy bank for "Big Bucks Tom King"? Why can insider Board members get special treatment on ads ran in Bullet Magazine? Are NYSRPA Board members hand picked by Tom King negligent in their duty to advance the interests of the membership and not advance Tom King personally? Is Tom King worth this salary especially for what amounts to part time work? What does Tom King's employment agreement say? And why was this agreement and very high salary not disclosed to the membership? HOW WELL HAS TOM KING DONE TO ROLL BACK THE SAFE ACT?

I've debated joining but I have not see tons of progress or updates from NYSRPA and now with this I will NOT join..I will give to NRA who I think does do something for 2a rights. see no progress on anything these days.....

besides most all charities and Non for Profits will send out financials to its member as normal practice to disclose the financial solvency and strength of the orgainization.

Very dissapointing. 90k alot for a part time gig....maybe time for leadership changes...wonder what the by laws say about that..if anything..

You bet $$ it is. King is dellusional if he thinks he is worth that type of money . Besides, the advertising deal he gave his board member who looks pretty shady according to the news reports is as smelly as it gets. Looks like he takes care of his insider friends and they take care of him. I am giving $ to NRA. They get results and are not run "by and for the benefit" of Tom King.

The e-mail alert states that the financials show a partial year salary. One of our club members tells me King started to take money out of NYSRPA treasury in February, 2015, so the year end financials shows a partial year. Full year take is $90,000! Makes Shelly Silver and Skelos look good by comparison!

I am not renewing. My money will go to NRA where I can trust it won't be out into someone's personal slush fund or support the insider board of director dealings that NYSRPA does.

another reason why NRA is the best bet for my money

Here's a link below to an article about what NRA can do for us all in the new Administration. You think NYSRPA and Tom King's insider board of director buddies can do any of this? No way. That's just one example of why NRA is getting my money now, not NYSRPA. Support NRA = Gun rights are regained. Support NYSRPA = pay a lavish salary to ineffective Tom King
