I have no idea to be honest. I would guess that it would only based only based on the numbers and assuming that the way you stated the question to mean that .223 goes right through a quarter. Is there a reason your asking? do you already know the answer and this is a test?

From what I see the 17 is over 50% the veloctity but under 50% the pound force of a .223. to be honest I dont know how to correlate that data. But I would bet a small amount of money that it would assuming of course the round struck the quarter.

I shot through an old shovel with my .17 hmr and those were the 17 gr. I would think the 20 gr. would deffinately do it since they hold together better after impact.

My boy shot our .22 spinners with the 17 HMR at 50 yards one day and completely ruined them. Punched holes right through them.

I did the same thing with a .223.
