I think its a forced waiting period or cooling off period as some say. Its also another form of gun control that makes no sense.
Why an amendment signed by a judge??
Why does a judge have to sign an amendment to add a new gun??? No background check needed, you already have a permit...this is crazy. Why cann't it be added by the Sheriff's office or the clerks office? This should be something that we should ALL write our Senators and Representatives about. Of all the laws everyone is against I would figure this is the one gun owners would want changed almost as much as not needing a permit to begin with.. The biggest pain in the ass for this .......gun shows. You find a good deal and the games playing starts all over again....weeks and months before you can shoot a gun you spent hard earned money on. I bet if the state did not get it;s sales tax ...till we got our guns out of hock from FFLs or Gun shops things would expedite.

All of Monroe county doesn't care since amendments are pre-signed and there is a stack at the clerks desk. No waiting for judge approval. Yes us in Monroe County dont have to wait. The law does say the judge must sign off on adding the new pistols which is BS.
Oneida Co. doesn't have a wait either, you go to the office and they add it to your permit and give you the coupon to pick up. I think it's a county by county thing. I believe Madison Co. has a wait for the judge to sign too.
In Cortland, you can get the coupon before you even know what gun you are buying.
here is the actual state law regarding amending pistol permits.
9. License: amendment. Elsewhere than in the city of New York, a person licensed to carry or possess a pistol or revolver may apply at any time to his licensing officer for amendment of his license to include one or more such weapons or to cancel weapons held under license. If granted, a record of the amendment describing the weapons involved shall be filed by the licensing officer in the executive department, division of state police, Albany. Notification of any change of residence shall be made in writing by any licensee within ten days after such change occurs, and a record of such change shall be inscribed by such licensee on the reverse side of his license. Elsewhere than in the city of New York, and in the counties of Nassau and Suffolk, such notification shall be made to the executive department, division of state police, Albany, and in the city of New York to the police commissioner of that city, and in the county of Nassau to the police commissioner of that county, and in the county of Suffolk to the licensing officer of that county, who shall, within ten days after such notification shall be received by him, give notice in writing of such change to the executive department, division of state police, at Albany.

All counties are different in this aspect, it is my understanding that in Wayne County, that depending on the time frame that they may or may not run another backround check. Again, this is dependant upon the lenght of time from the issuance of your permit...
In Ulster County the sheriff's office processes the amendment to purchase an additional handgun. No need to wait for the judge to "sign off" on it.
Judge has to sign it off in Putnam County. Usually takes a week or so, depending which day you drop off your amendment request.
Erie county, too easy. Take receipt from dealer to PP office, they update your card, issue a new one and a coupon to pick up firearm.
Montgomery County just updated their system so that it too is instant. Bring receipt to clerk, get a pre-signed card and go pick up your gun.
Well at least I see some counties have it right. So easy....the way it should be. With the Syracuse gun show coming....has Wayne Co ever had a way to get an amendment at the show, or is the hard, frustrating and uncompromising way forever?
The way it should be is NO permits to own and NO amendments to said permit.So easy....the way it should be.

Livingston county is probably one of the easiest.... Go to the clerks office and tell them you want x amount of purchase coupons. You can go out and use them that day, in a month, or a couple years from now. Go into a gun shop, pay for your gun, leave with it then. Just bring the receipt to the clerks office within 10 days!

Broome is roughly a 3 day waiting period. It used to be the judge that signed off on them but now the sheriff does them. I want to contact the judge to get that changed and I asked the sheriff how I can contact the judge and he told me to write him a letter. So I have to snail mail it to him. I asked for an email address and he said he does not have one. No reason for the wait since it does not accomplish anything except me wasting time and gas and also wasting tax payer's money while the sheriff could be doing other things.

Believe me, if I could find work I'd be gone in a heartbeat. But the point is I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO MOVE! This is still the United States of America is it not? The constitution applies nationwide, not at the whim of some local politicians.Then move! You still have freedom of choice right? If you don't like it here then go somewhere that will make you happy!
