Just got the permit in the mail today... WHOO WHOO.

So that took 9/8 ~ 5/27. Approximate 9 month. But it included a snag for the out of state references, which probably ate up 2 ~ 3 month between my late response and them processing. So, I'd say Rockland turn around time is approximately 6 + month.

Having said that the letter I received with my permit is REALLY confusing. Below are some excerpts. What really confuses me is that I have the green slip (Purchase permit ?), which supposedly gives me "one time ability to pick up the pistol the same day". But the next sentence tells me that "Before I take possession, I must present bill of sale and the permit to the office" .... HUH ?? WHAT ??

I'm thinking what they meant to write is :
"Included is the green purchase coupon, which will allow you purchase a pistol today. (but not take it home with you) To take possession of the handgun, you must register and add it to your permit. Please do this by bringing the Bill of sale and permit to the pistol clerk office."

Is that about right ? Man...they really need to make gun laws and procedure clear. It's like asking my 2 year old to explain how to tie a shoe laces.

SOOOO.......What am I going to buy ? Here is my current list. Which has been changing/shifting weekly for the past 9 month

- glock 17 gen 4 or 19. $480+ tax (even got 6 pre ban mags already too...Hmmm Hmmm.)
- or may be some other Glock like 29SF, 30SF, or 26.
- HK p7 grade c. from hk specialist. 540$ + ffl transfer.
- glock 17 + accessories from "classified" section here... 500$.
- cz p01 500$ + ffl transfer.
- Taurus 1911
- Ruger sr9c
- Browning hi power.
- Springfield XD or XDM .45
- used sig ?
- used HK. 2000sk, USP compact

My budget is about 650$ max just for a gun initially. (Yes. I know I need to buy other stuff too) Rather buy local, because I have 250$ in my secret squirrel spy fund that my wife doesn't know about. So, 750$ gun becomes a 500$ gun....you know what I mean ?

Anyway, I got a figure this out. I really want Browning hi power, but it is bit out of reach even with my secret discretionary funds. I'm currently going back and forth between HK p7 and any of the glocks.....

OK...enough rants, just excited is all..... Hope every one else gets over the hot days coming up. BYE !

Handed in my application in July...No response....nor have any of my references been called!!! Really???
WOW.. Based on my experience, pistol permit clerk has an dry attitude, but is very helpful. So, you definitely should give them a call.

BTW, your references will be receiving a one page survey about you, not a phone call.

ALSO...Just as an extra tid bit of info. I noticed that my permit was actually issued in December. Which means that they likely issued it, then noticed that the references were from out of state, so they went back and went through the references portion of the process again. WHich means that I could have gotten the permit in short as 3+ months.

I applied after you in Sept. And I can tell you my references got contacted in about a month. So, there is some thing going on there. I would call them.

BTW..You did provide references in Rockland county right ??

So I just turned in my application on 9/8.... What is the wait time like ? Any one know ?

Man...I can't wait.

K
I tried to put my application in during the first week of January and they would not accept it. They said they would call me when they were taking application once again. That took 2 months and after I called them to ask when they were going to call me. That was just the beginning of one delay after another at each department that was involved in the process. After many delays and many calls I made I was finally scheduled for the Firearms class on August 26th only to receive a call that day saying it was cancelled due to the instructor getting Covid. I called today to find out any information and they have no more updates. They will not allow a substitute certified class from the outside. They only have ONE insructor. Will I ever get a permit? I am now trying to find out who I can place a complaint with within the county. Good Luck!!!
