call the county pistol permit office and speak with someone there. I called them a few times during my process (ulster county). They were very helpful and informative.

Yeah good luck getting the pistol office to cal you back. You can try but their track record for call backs sucks.

If you can stop down there I would try that. If you live within city limits your timeline isn't out of line with other people who have posted on here.

Call the RPD and ask for Officer Rodwell.
He handles all the pistol permit applications for city residents.
He is currently on February of 2011.
I handed mine in on 2/9/11, and just got my permit yesterday. Just a heads up.
It's a looooooong wait.

Call the county clerk first, if they dont call you back call who ever handles them. If you live in the city call RPD and if you live outside the city call the Sheriffs. Also you can always email the county clerks office and they always got back to me even when I was bugging them a lot lol.
