I don't own either but I hear nothing but amazing things about the Ruger 10/22. Whenever I talk to people that I'm thinking about grabbing a 22 rifle, the first thing they say is "get a ruger 10/22". Literally every person lol. So I'm going to have to lean towards it. You can find them online for $200 pretty easily.

want to get a .22 for my gf for her bday next week so doesn't like my sig 522 because its to heavy so i was thinking ruger 10/22 or smith 15/22. whats a better option in your opinion. Also with the 10/22 she likes the ati stock that comes pinned for ny legal for $100 so it would bring me around $400 for the ruger and the smith is only about $450 NY LEGAL. which way should i go reliability accuracy etc. thanks guy

All three mentioned above are great, but it depends on what she is wanting to do. My daughter took more to the S&W more due to it being closer to an AR platform and I wasn't going to let her start out one.
Head to a local shop and try them on. See which one best fits her. Show her it's like shopping for shoes and just as fun. Never know, might walk out of the store wanting all them, big plus.

for me i have shot them all and didnt like the smith it felt like a toy but for her maybe a plus I also want to keep performance in mind the 10/22 has been around for a long time so to me that means they are doing something right.... but maybe these new comers can out perform the 10/22 what do you think just a range rifle not much else than shooting paper....

I love them both, you can't go wrong with either. I know that's not the answer you were probably looking for. Since the specific 10/22 she likes is close in price to the s&w, I would go for the s&w. I feel like the advantage of the ruger is it's affordability, but since the customization she likes brings it nearly on par in price with he s&w, go with that one. Either one is a spectacular gift.

Good suggestions. Another possibility, just to throw it out there for you, would be specifically the relativity new 10/22 CRR model. Since weight is an issue for her, the CRR model is the compact version of the basic 10/22. It has a 16.12" barrell as opposed to the standard 18.5", as well as coming with a stock with a shorter overall LOP. The actual weight difference is only about a half of a pound, but it feels lighter since the size difference changes the center of gravity. I bought one from another member here when they first came out (though it is still unfired in the box), but it's a really cool little thing. Made mine even lighter by replacing the wood with a plastic dragonov style thumbhole stock. The nice thing of course is that it's still the same old 10/22 action so you can use the bazillion mods out there to customize it to your preferences. Comes standard with nice fiber optic sights that are very easy to pick up in daylight also.
I like the 10/22's got 3 of them, 2 are 1976/77 models you can't ware them out!!!

I don't have a scope on mine, but I found a youtube video of someone shooting a CRR with the exact same stock I have on mine. He seems to be doing fine with his red dot, and appears to have enough clearance for a cheek weld. Mine just doesn't have all the accesories or the big magazine, but otherwise looks just like that.

Edit: Just as a note though , the dragunov stock is longer overall than the wood that comes on the gun and isnt adjustable. This is about as lightweight as it gets , but if I had it to do again I'd probably get an adjustable and pin it where I wanted it.

I would run over to the Spotsmen's Den and pick up that sweet Pre Ban 10-22 with the Ram Line folding stock. I think he had it listed for......OHHH...&#$&...wait.....I already bought it.

10/22's are definitely the go to gun, but you might also take a look at Marlin .22 rifles. I'm very pleased with mine, after having it for a good 10 years and thousands of rounds down range.
I'm a big fan of Marlin's also , but it's hard to argue with the 10/22 platform in terms of personalization and maybe more importantly performance parts. A marlin is good, but it will pretty much always be a standard marlin. There's just such an enormous slew of 10/22 parts out there that you can buy one and basically buy improvements forever as cash allows. Indeed, the next .22 I own will probably be a 10/22.
Im going up to collector rifle and ammo hope on sat. they give me a deal i send them so much business. It will probably be the 10/22 is she wants another option i will go and get it
If you are specifically going to look for the CRR compact model and CR&A doesn't have one, I think the local Gander Mtns do tend to stock them usually.
