I plan on applying for a home and target permit soon in Westchester county. My dad, who lives in Florida, is willing to let me co-own one of his pistols. Anyone have experience in submitting an application this way? I am guessing I will need a notarized letter from my dad that he is the pistol owner and granting me co-ownership. My idea here is rather than buying a pistol and letting it sit at the gun store for 6 months, just use my dad's pistol on the application initially, then once I receive the permit go and buy something I can actually pick up and feel and amend the permit. Any thoughts or advice?

I don't think you could use his pistol since he doesn't have a NY permit. I'd recommend buying a cheap .22lr pistol then just sell it after you get the permit.
