For anyone interested in the time for a Westchester amendment. Just added a gun to my permit. Mailed in the paperwork on 01/24/22. My check was cashed on 01/31/22. Received my amended permit and coupon to pickup in the mail today 03/17/22. I was hoping for a faster turn around time but it was as expected.

Congratulations. I would imagine that after all that wait, it must be exciting. That is as long as the whole new permit process here. To me that is incredibly slow and inexcusable. Three to five days for an amendment here, or as quick as the USPS can deliver the amended permits but Im much further from that big mess they call NYC.

So here is my experience with adding 5th handgun. Not quick like walking into a store and buying it but definitely better than I expected.

4/7/22 - Amendment sent.
4/15/22 - Check cashed
4/20/22 - Got a call for FFL receipt. I stupidly attached out of state gun shop receipt instead if FFL from NY. Called my FFL who faxed over required documents right then.
5/2/22 - Judge signed off
5/4/22 - Letter mailed
5/7/22 - Amendment in hand; Now got to go pick up the gun this week

This was in Lower Westchester for 5th handgun. No inspection or photo of safe requested.

on the addition of my fifth gun I was asked for photos and a signed affidavit of a home safe.
This was Westchester county. If my memory is right it took them around six weeks to ask for this. The amended permit was several weeks later.

Good morning. I looked at this forum after seeing that my amendment still hasn鈥檛 gone through. It鈥檚 been about 5 weeks, and after 3 weeks I鈥檝e been stopping in the office twice a week to check. My gym is around the corner so it鈥檚 easy. They keep saying since the first time I was there it鈥檚 still with the judge. Whats the deal with almost 2 month waits? It鈥檚 insanity. Is this being challenged anywhere as well? How in the world can it take months to be able to pick up your legally owned, background checked firearm? It seems impossibly illegal.

edit: the lady at the office told me that it depends on which judge you get. Some judges sign them quickly, others hold onto them. I assume also some anti 2a judges are taking their time right now

I'll definitely let you know. I submitted my amendment for the new firearm on June 22. I then submitted my amendment for full carry separately on July 8. I submitted both in person and paid via CC so that I could have a paper trail. I was told by the licensing unit that the full carry amendment would have no effect on the new firearm amendment, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm just venting now, but this should be an instant process. There's no reason for the judge to have to "sign off" on a new purchase if you already have your permit, and then will have to pass a background check anyway to pick it up. It should be illegal. There's technically no waiting period to buy a new firearm in new york, but this system makes a backwards waiting period built in.

Does your original license and a self addressed return envelope have to be submitted as well? My previous county required both and I'm not sure if Westchester is the same.

Also is there a benefit to dropping off the amendment in person or is it the same as submitting by mail?

Thanks a bunch
