...reports that the process seemed to be moving to completion when the United States requested an extension to the time allotted to negotiate the agreement.
You'd like to think they requested that extension because they were feeling some heat from intelligent people realizing it kinda goes against some rights we've already established here.

By the way, that last quote that they don't bother to translate means "That's life and the life that's right." Take it for what you will.

I'm confused. Is it dead or just postponed to be fought another day?

postponed

China and Russia are against it because they love the $ they make from selling us guns/ammo.

Russia wouldnt voluntarily hang themselves by saying, gee, sure we wont sell any evil guns/ammo to other countries! Thats a great part of what they have to sell to the world. Surplus ammo, and new guns from factories that were geared up for the past 50-60 years.

i dont see things getting any easier here in the US with gun laws.... its hard enough for us to just live with out $hitty laws, muchless prevent new ones from squeeking through and being passed.

I feel it will be postponed until after the election IF, and only IF, Obummer wins. I feel the reason he has made the past few statements concerning gun control, such as simply enforcing existing law and not creating anything new, is so he doesn't lose more votes for the election. But come November, if he wins, all gloves are off and we all know that because he has said that he'd be more flexible with these types of things in his second term.

Also, the US would lose a LOT of money if we signed this arms treaty. I remember reading in Fortune magazine a while back that billions upon billions of dollars are made from the US (both private and government) selling firearms, ammunition, and heavy weapons to foreign countries. If we signed this deal, would that all still happen? Would the US hurt it's own economy on purpose? It has before, or so it seems.
