A newbie from the northern part of Franklin County here! I had my interview yesterday for my pistol permit. Any ideas how long it takes from here? Also, I'm hoping to get the pistol mostly for sport. I'm not a big shooter now (right handed, left-eye dominant, so I struggle with rifles - or maybe I'm doing something wrong), but I'm hoping I can be more competitive with my husband and the men-folk with a pistol. It helps that my husband doesn't have a permit, so he's lousy with a pistol. Any suggestions what I should get? I was originally looking at a .22, but with the scarcity of ammo, I don't want to buy something I can't readily load.

Also, any recommendations of good instructors/courses in the area? Because I'm not a hunter, I'd really like some safety pointers, as well as some shooting and maintenance training. Or do you think I'd be ok showing up at a local range and playing damsel in distress until I could get a knowledgable guy to help me? Or having trusted friends (law enforcement friends and otherwise) giving me an informal course?
Welcome aboard Sunny girl. I too am left eye dominant and right handed. I use my left hand to shoot a rifle and have gotten quite proficient. Still use my right hand for hand guns

I'm left-hand challenged. I've never been able to shoot a basketball left handed, could never cut fabric left handed and could never shoot a gun left handed. I'm unfortunately a righty with dumb eye alignment. :)
I have a "lazy" right eye. Left hand not great for most things but pulling a trigger .....no problem
