So while watching the State Assembly feed this afternoon, I heard on at least several occasions (from anti-gun State assemblymen) that it was the NYSP who wanted hi-cap mags so-called "assault rifles" out of the hands of NY residents, reason being that their safety is jeopardized because civilians have them and they don't (yeah, right). I'm starting to wonder if the NYSP are a big factor behind these draconian, unconstitutional gun laws. The few run-ins I've had with NYSP in my lifetime have been negative -- they have pulled me over for going 3, 5, and 11mph over the speed limit and ticketed me every time, whereas town and city police officers have almost always let me off with warnings, so it's difficult to think positively about them epecially after hearing that they were instrumental in crafting "NY SAFE".

Are the NYSP becoming NY's version of the gestapo or the SS?

I highly ****ing doubt it unless they received some form of compensation. There's no way any self respecting police officer would say a "second pistol grip" makes a weapon "more lethal."

Yeah I really meant the upper echelons (superintendents, etc.) of the NYSP. I didn't mean to imply the troopers themselves, though as I mentioned they seem particularly more ruthless than other PD's when it comes to enforcing the laws (traffic laws in particular - but it's probably their main source of revenue behind taxpayers so perhaps that's not news to anyone). I'm betting that most if not all "hi-cap mag arrests" and "assault weapon violation" arrests will be carried out by NYSP.

I'd bet that the Troopers just went like to our AR pic thread pages and picked out cosmetic features to keep our guns from ever being not assault weapons by their new definitions. The Gov said nail em and they did. The intention was to eliminate and restrict AR rifles completely. No playing fair here Prince Andrew does whatever he wants. Now the NYSP superintendent can name at his descretion any gun he wants as restricted AW? The function of police is to enforce law, not to make it.

I heard a few assemblymen state the exact opposite....that the SP officers were angry about this as they felt it was going to put them into harm's way with angry people trying to keep their rifles.

This whole thing is a huge mess and I hope it blows up in their faces legally. Maybe Cuomomom will be removed from office along with 90% of the other idiots.

I have been entertaining this idea for a few years.....I feel that it must have something to do with NYSP training since 911 and the emergence of the DHS, Personally I see a more anti-civilian NYSP as compared to the helpful, friendly and primarily professional group they USED TO BE. Just my humble opinion

I heard from a couple troopers today who were saying how stupid this law is and that if people register their guns the first "emergency" the "idiot" up in Albany will be ordering the state police to confiscate them and they want no part of that hell.

That's because the states broke and hard up for money. They get a percentage of the fine. It's free money to the state.
