Finally was called down to convert my sportsman to carry. Suffolk Co. Yappank,
After the 18 hour class
It took about 2.5 months to get called in for my new CCW. My friend went today and was told 4 months.
I had to fill out a short form with my name, address, phone, social media sites I’ve used in the last 3 years, names and ages of anyone I live with and relationship to me.
That’s it in and out in 5 mins.

That’s it huh? That’s a lot of happiness for all that government overreach. I’m glad your pleased but I’m done. I haven’t even done my semiauto rifle permit because I do t want to be in their radar anymore and I refuse to buy ammo in NYS again since they want so much I for now when you buy it. I’ll buy in another state from now on.

Is Suffolk County making you register the semi automatic rifle on the pistol license?
I thought it was a simple amendment you add the semi automatic endorsement and can proceed with a purchase.

I don’t live in Suffolk County and yes it’s the same in my county as what you’re describing. You get semi auto amendment added to your permit and then you buy as you “please”. They are not making you register each rifle. I still don’t want to do it since I don’t trust that they won’t ban them in NYS and those of us that have them on our permits will be the first stop. I have what rifles I need and don’t plan to buy any so I’m hoping this gets overturned but I don’t think it will. My trust in this state is zero.

Suffolk County has 2 different PLB’s. SCPD and the Sheriffs. I’m pretty sure that SCPD is listing all recent semi auto rifle’s purchased on your permit. Not so with the Sheriffs. All that you need from them is the endorsement, and they will give that to you in a matter of minutes.

I wouldn’t worry about buying a legal semi automatic rifle post Safe Act. I would agree with not registering an Assault Weapon, selling it or making it compliant, in fear of one day getting a rude awakening that the registered firearms have to be confiscated since a new law passed banning them.
The DEC allows semi automatic rifles for hunting.

Yes, The western towns are covered by the SCPD in Yaphank. The eastern towns are Riverhead, Southold, Shelter Island, Southampton and Easthampton covered by the Suffolk County Sheriffs Office in Riverhead. Interesting fact that the Sheriff is the only Sheriff in charge of issuing a pistol license in New York State. The Sheriff’s Office is operating a better system thanks to the Sheriff listening to his constituents.

There is already talk of banning semiautomatic rifles so I’m just looking to stay off the radar. Assault rifles can be used for hunting as well. Everything I own is legal and I plan to keep it that way, but it’s getting tough or it might get tough in the coming years. I have a very high level of distrust for the NYS government and I’m assuming someday they will make you register every semiautomatic firearm unless the Supreme Court bans it but even then NYS will still do it as evidenced by the CCIA. I don’t need or want anything so I’m not going to do it.

The courts are now turning against semi auto and hicap mag bans. Newsom yesterday acknowledged those bans in Ca are almost done. So the unSAFE act will probably be overturned in the next year.

It will take a separate lawsuit filed in New York. I believe we had one dismissed in the Eastern District last year.

Another law has been proposed in the legislature requiring handgun permit applicants to undergo psychological testing. Geeeeee another NY law violating Bruen.
It’s been introduced for the past few years… it’s nothing new and it will not stop. Get used to it or get out of NYS and I’m not being mean here it’s just the reality. NYS sucks, but I think you know that

Correct. I believe there is one going on now in NYS challenging this right now. They are essentially saying the second circuit messed up last time ruling against the safe act challenge and got it wrong with the Bruen decision. They justified it under the old rules and it’s almost certain it will be overturned unless they pull something out of their rear end, and they likely will.

That’s it? None of that should be required. Only thing required should be a NICS a heck to make sure you’re not a horrible person and you should be able to buy anything within reason. Reason to me is full auto firearms.
