I have a Smith & Wesson M&P shield 9mm and the trigger pull is somewhat hard which affects accuracy with this compact pistol in my opinion. Anyone know how to get the trigger pull lighter on the S&W Shield 9mm's? Thanks.

I would pick up some Flitz and apply it to the contact areas of the trigger bar. Im sure u could find a video on polishing the internals of a shield somewhere. If that doesn't satisfy you, look into the Apex Tactical trigger kit. Its an expensive option but i know people really seem to like it.

good luck

Just completed the installation of the Apex Tactical trigger kit, this weekend. Love it! Trigger is much smoother seems to be more crisp and reset is much more pronounced and shorter. I would highly recommend it. WARNING the rear sight removal is a PAIN, but worth it. I believe the change in lbs is supposed to be between -1.5 & -2. I don't have a trigger pull gauge so I'm not sure exactly.

Most people opt for Apex kit, as Ryan pointed out. You can also wait for it to naturally break in with shooting; usually around 500-750 rounds.

Honestly, while yes, the Apex kit is expensive, depending on what you paid for the Shield, you're still probably coming out at a pretty good price. Of course, some people argue in the opposite direction, that by the time you've slapped in the Apex, for the money, you could have had the XDs or PPS. But if you like the pistol, and just the trigger is bothering you, then I think the Apex kit is worth it.

What is the Apex part number for this kit? Also, how are the instructions being you just did it? Thanks.

You can order it on the Apex Tactical Site: SKU # 100-051 or ebay (only saves you a couple of bucks). Apex also sells a trigger to replace the factory trigger, but I kept the factory trigger because I like it. Apex also posted a video on youtube with step by step instructions, which is what I used. Again a warning, in the video it shows the the rear site coming off using a punch. Mine was impossible to remove with a punch and had to purchase a universal sight removal tool. I purchased the armor's block as well, made the process very easy.

I use a big carabiner, something like this. You may already have one. 8" Jumbo Aluminum Hook
You can then cut half of the top from a 1 gallon milk jug. Keep the handle part of the milk jug. You can either pour water into the jug or use a bunch of nuts/bolts/screws or whatever for weights. You may already have an accurate scale, or else borrow one. The nice thing about water is known density. If you don't have a scale, but you can measure volume of water with a measuring pitcher. Water - Density and Specific Weight

Be sure the gun is clear, no ammo, and ready to pull the trigger. Hook one end of the carabiner through the trigger guard and the other through the milk jug handle. Point the gun straight up so that the weight of the jug is pulling straight back against the trigger. Add water (or hardware or whatever) until the trigger breaks. Repeat as necessary. Measure the weight of the hardware or volume of water and you now know the trigger pull of your gun.

the assumption that they are better is the fail there.
As I said, 'some people argue.' Don't quote mine. From reviews I've read, they all seem to be on par with one another, with each having a couple things the others don't offer. For instance, the XDs having a grip safety, the Shield not having aggressive enough texturing, the PPS having wide sights, etc etc.

However, I have long since given up on the fan boying of 'X vs. Y' just on the blind basis of name brand or what the current 'in' thing is based on what the 'tactical experts' and reviewers who are being paid by the manufacturers they're extolling the virtues of. If you've got the money, I advocate buying all 3; 'and' is always better than 'or.'

And this list doesn't even include the PF9, Kahr series, Glock 26, P938...the list goes on with popular subcompacts.

Why won't S&W put a decent trigger in the M&P's?? I'm looking at the shield, but am very reluctant because of the trigger. My G19 may not have the best trigger but it's way better than the M&P 9 that I had.
FWIW, I have both the Full size M&P 40 as well as a Shield in 40. the Shield trigger is better.
