SKS rifles tend to be of pretty similar quality, I own a 1955R Russian myself and I would say that if the shooter is decent it could hit an 18 inch target at 200 yards, I did a little shooting at what I estimated to be about 100 yards at a paper plate and was able to hit that pretty good once I figured out which way my rifle was drifting.I wanted to hear any feedback on the Yugo SKS'es , I know they are pretty reliable , I had A norinco SKS 15 years ago.
How the accuracy at 100 yards ? 1, 2, 4, MOA? Can you hit a 18 inch target @ 200 yards??
Go or no go?
I have a nice Yugo that I am in the process of cleaning the ton of cosmo off. I thought about removing the grenade launcher and while doing research, it appears there may be issues with this "conversion" as it may take it out of C&R status. Can anyone weigh in on this?I don't lke those grenade launchers on it.....Anyone ever experimented in removing them ??
I know that if you start adding new parts that it will mess with the C&R status and also require a full 922(R) conversion to stay federally legal, however I don't think removing some of the items will hurt, for example my SKS is missing the bayonet, cleaning kit and cleaning rod however it is still a C&R being from 1955I have a nice Yugo that I am in the process of cleaning the ton of cosmo off. It WILL remove it from C&R status. You have then altered the weapon from it's original configuration.I have a nice Yugo that I am in the process of cleaning the ton of cosmo off. So being mine is missing the bayonet and the cleaning kit parts is it no longer C&R? And do I need to make mine 922(R) compliant? It WILL remove it from C&R status. You have then altered the weapon from it's original configuration.
No ... it was very common to see them imported without the cleaning rod, bayonet and tool kit located in the buttstock. That won't remove it from the list. Removing a feature such as the grenade launcher WILL remove it from C&R status because you removed a "feature" of the gun that also makes it a curiosity (the real reason they are on the list to begin with considering the Yugo's being imported now are late 80's manufacture) ... you still won't have to worry about 922r compliance. The gun is missing a pistol grip AND detachable magazine so it's not considered an "assault" weapon to begin with which is why the muzzle device is allowed on it. Not to mention ... it's preban. So being mine is missing the bayonet and the cleaning kit parts is it no longer C&R? And do I need to make mine 922(R) compliant?
It wasn't just very early Chinese SKSs that were milled , the vast majority of Chinese SKS production was milled. The stamped receiver Chinese SKSs are very rare. Early Chinese SKSs are often made from Russian parts and later ones are quite often rebuilt Russian rifles. 90% of the 16" barreled Chinese SKSs I have seen were actually Russian SKSs. Chinese SKS will sometimes come with stamped and welded trigger groups and people have been known to mistake those for stamped receivers.I will only buy Russian or Yugo manufacture SKS. The chinese stamped receivers don't really appeal to me. The fit and finish of the Chinese is not even close to that of the Russian or the Yugo.
