Any reccomendations for butchers in the area? Schroon Lake or south in the vicinity of 87.
Not sure exactly what you are looking for, butcher shop (to buy meat) or an actual butcher (to process meat)? If you don't mind traveling a litter father from 87, hop on 74. I know in Ticonderoga for a butcher shop there is Two Brother's Meat Market on Montcalm St, for meat processing check out the Adirondack Meat Company (their "plant" is on 74 and have a shop on Wicker St.).

I assumed because airborne posted this in hunting that he is anticipating someone taking care of his venison (and/or bear meat) that he may gather in Hoffman Notch this season..... So I believe he is seeking a deer processor.

These are processors throughout the state that take part in the venison donation program. At least it will give you a resource for a few possibilities.

Deer pocessing. It's a longshot up there, but I don't want to be left trying to figure this out after the fact. I prefer not to do it myself at this time. Maybe in the future. The main concern is the 5.5 hour drive home in October rather than December.

BONING OUT DEER

Some hunters who take a deer in remote areas may wish to bone out the deer and pack out the meat. This is lawful but you must retain the carcass tag with the boned out meat. From the dec.

As a last resort we're thinking quartering/boning, but neither of us have done it before so we were hoping to avoid that. I am bringing a large cooler just in case we have to resort to that.

Better keep the antlers at least if taking w/o, or in a closed WMU for DMPs.....
Haven't seen any requirements for deer in NY like the requirement to leave a wing on a cleaned duck. As long as the tag is accompanying the meat you are ok to travel.

One could, but I generally like to remove all glands and organs from my meat as soon as convenient. Other problem, it could have been an antlerless buck...
You're going to use your doe tag for that anyways, so there's no reason to leave a nut attached.

You don't have to leave one attached, but if you quarter it, it's definitely showing that you are on the "up and up". There is no regulation saying that you have to take the antlers with you, so leaving a nut attached isn't really necessary though.
