So far:

-Application has been turned in. (8/13)
-PP safety class completed and reported to county on (8/24)
-All references have returned the completed question sheet. (last one came in 8/26)

At this point I believe the background investigation will begin right? I am just curious if anyone can chime in with an estimated timeline on what happens next. What else should I expect?

Just sit back and wait. At this point 90% of the background check is done. If they hold true to form, they will wait for DOH to get back you mental health check. I read on here, not all that long ago, that they (DOH) are back logged. My Saratoga County permit took 135 days.

If you tell the lady that schedules the course (only talk to her, the old man that answers the phone sometimes doesn't know anything)and tell her that you have turned in your app. This sometimes materializes class seats. Or at the very least if you are flexible with possible last minute notifications, she will place you on the "call in" list for when someone cancels.

Thanks guys. Do I meet with the judge or Sheriff or is it all just paper pushing at this point?

Odds are it will just be paper pushing at this point. I didn't have any contact with anyone from the SO, other then to turn in the app and be printed. I wrote a letter to the judge requesting no restrictions and a few other things. In response to this, I had to meet with the judge. But I don't think that is the norm for Saratoga Co.

Wow, that sucks, Warren County was only 1 month wait for my wife and a friend

I turned my paperwork in on 6/26 ( saratoga county ), safety course on 8/24 and received my permit last friday, 10/5 . Faster than what the safety instructor told us which was dec. or jan. The longest wait was to get the appointment to turn my paperwork into the SO, waited from April to June.

Thats awesome, thanks for the info. I am suprised you go it so quick because it was my understanding the background investigation didnt start until your safety course was completed.

I'd be willing to bet you'll have yours sometime next month then based on your dates which were just after mine. Good Luck!
