I have an unrestricted nys pistol permit. I signed up for a class to take the Nra basic pistol course with live fire soI can get my CT non resident permit. The instructor calls me to confirm and tells me the Nra has a suit against the city of NY and now anyone with an unrestricted nys permit can apply for a NYC special carry permit.

It sounds to me like he is misinformed. Am I correct? I never heard of such a thing and can not find it anywhere on the internet.

Anyone can file suit for just about anything (sadly), but that doesn't mean they will win. Is it possible the NRA filed such a suit? Sure. However, IF the suit is ongoing, then there is no way people could attempt to get these special permits until the NRA wins the lawsuit...if they win.

interesting but sounds too good to be true, plus who wants to spend all that moneu to carry there, what do you do when you see a no firearms sign?? And by the way, check on this instructors credentials. I am positive that they have to be certified for CT or Ct will not accept the course plus I heard the CT approved class is 10 hrs?? I forget the details but I was looking into it awhile back.

Can apply for or will be granted? Two different things. I thought anyone can apply but getting one is another story.

I would think probably what the NRA guy really ment was that the NRA want's to file a suit against NYC and need qualified unrestricted NYS licensees to be parties that have been refused in the suit.

Seems like it violates the equal protection clause or whatever it's called so a lawsuit might have a good chance.

I found this instructor from the Nra website. CT requires the Nra basic pistol course with live fire. I am taking the class on Saturday and will pick his brain to see where he is coming from. I'll let you guys know what he says. He did say to me that because of the suit NYC has been issuing special carry permits to those with unrestricted nys permits for the last 2 months. Like I said before, it sounded strange to me and I haven't seen anywhere backing up his claim.

One thing these kids today got right (maybe the only thing) is the saying "pics or it didn't happen".

And do not think for even one second that you can carry a pistol in NYC because the dude at the range told you so. Unless the police commissioner told you so, don't even entertain the thought.

You could always apply, doesn't mean you'll get it though.

I have not heard of any such lawsuit. And I am about 99.9% sure I would have heard about it! Except for a couple crazy pro se's, no one has challenged NYC on the right to bear arms. Yet.

Have you called the CTSP headquarters in Middletown CT? I have an unrestricted Class A (Large Cap) Mass license and simply applied for and got a CT non-resident license. I assume you you were required to take a live fire course for your NY license. If so that might (should) suffice.

Seems pretty dumb to have to have a different carry license for magazine capacity. I guess the east coast (and california) will always and forever be the home to socialism and communism.

Contact me offline or by PM. I know of a few reputable instructors in your area that can help you out.

Sorry you got a bad experience with this guy.

"No license required"? HUH? Is this guy stoned?

NYC does issue a special unrestricted license. Many are non NYC residents that have them. Best advice is call an attorney who does specialize in that area.

When I first read this thread I thought it was going to be the rumor about me having a small penis.

I assure you that it is not true!!

That is all for now.

The Westchester case was what was going to change NYC licensing if was won. Sadly the Federal Judge dismissed the case like the one out in California. SAF is appealing it. Bloomberg was rumored to have laxed pistol licenses during that time.
