A Rockland County Sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries Thursday after accidentally shooting himself in the leg.

HAVERSTRAW - A Rockland County corrections officer was treated for a minor wound Thursday after accidentally shooting himself in the leg, authorities said.
An earlier version of this story said the victim was a sheriff's deputy
Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco would not identify the officer, but said he was a veteran.
The officer was training with a handgun at the county police academy firing range about 1:30 p.m. when the accident occured, Falco said.
Surrounded by other officers trained in emergency response, he received quick treatment, the sheriff said. Paramedics took the officer to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
"It was a graze wound. Nothing even remotely damaging or life threatening," Falco said.
What caused Thursday's shooting was unclear. Falco said the incident remained under investigation, but that, "all indications are that it was accidental."
The deputy is not expected to face any disciplinary action.

A bit more to this, when I get a chance to post again...

good thing they advise that all residents of rockland get restricted permits. Us serfs aren't AS prepared to shoot ourselves in the leg like the police are. At least police know what to do not if but WHEN the gun (which has a brain of its own) decides to go off all by itself.

There's that word again, "accidental". When do they ever refer to it as negligence?

neg·li·gence
ˈnegləjəns/Submit
noun
failure to take proper care in doing something.
"some of these accidents are due to negligence"
LAW
failure to use reasonable care, resulting in damage or injury to another.

"Negligent" discharge of a weapon is reserved for the "civilians."

Such a harsh word must not be applied to the extra-special class that has more Rights than the tax payers that foot the bill.

Seems Corrections Sgt. James Witt drew his off duty weapon and a draw string caught on the trigger. Story I heard was while reholstering the weapon, it discharged a second time due again to the draw string. One round graze his leg, the second round went through his leg.

The Journal News story is not to surprising. Ever since the "Linderman" years the Urinal News has been told what they could or could not print concerning the Sheriff's Department and The County Jail. Often when a story about either made this rag of a paper it was leaked, either by an inmate, lawyer, or one of the two unions. If any reply was made by a Department Source is was short and sweet and facts or the other side of the story were omitted. Oh, the stories that could be told, if only the walls spoke! The line isn't Blue for C.O's rather it is Brown (Offical Sheriff's uniforms use to be Brown and Tan, some places they still are. At least where Sheriff Department's don't think they are some kind of special cops and the Jail isn't treated like an arm pit of law enforcement.) yeah, shi+ brown!

This happened in May 24 1:55 pm in the Journal News
Yes, the story is a little old, but only if you haven't heard it before. It was news to me!
