Tragic accident for the son of one of our town's cops.

Sad way to end my night this morning. I kissed the kids a little harder this evening.

It was a 1 vehicle accident. Very sad. He was only 8 months in. Thoughts and prayers to the officers family and to the driver of the van.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. Sunday. The nine officers were in a police van heading to their work assignment when it struck a barrier on the Bruckner Expressway near Bryant Avenue in the Bronx, police said. The NYPD van was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

They don't have seat belts in these police vans?

They do, but most are removed or broken from times when the seats had to be removed to move large pieces of evidence, barriers, cones, etc. Hopefully some changes are made. The standard of the equipment provided is horrendous, especially vehicle maintenance.

Rip Mike. I grew up with this kid, he's two years my younger but we rode the bus to school together. Can't believe his career and his life ended so soon...
