HERKIMER COUNTY -
The recent closure of a Connecticut firearms manufacturer owned by Remington Arms has Herkimer County officials hopeful they can add new jobs to the Ilion plant.

Last week, Marlin Firearms Co. based in North Haven, Conn., announced the plant with 265 employees will close by June 2011. Officials from Remington Arms, which acquired the North Haven company in 2007, said Marlin's manufacturing operations would be relocated to an undetermined site.

County Administrator James Wallace said Tuesday night that site could be Ilion.

Remington has been doing very well the past couple years. One of my customers is in Illion, right up the hill from Remington and the've been doing quite a bit of work for them.
