So I stopped into the LGS tonight to get some 9mm powder as mentioned in the other thread. Fortunately I walked out with some Bullseye, so I feel pretty good about that.
However, I am running low on Varget, and of course that is impossible to find right now. Shame on me for not doing my homework, but I figured while I was there I should ask about some other powder for my .308s. I asked what they had in stock that would be good for .308, and I was told of what they had in stock, Reloder 19 should work. I bought 5lbs of it and went home.
Well, now that I am at a computer, I am seeing this is hardly an ideal .308 powder. Alliant's site doesn't even list a recipe for it, and most searches are saying that it is too slow for .308. But some people have made it work with 47-50 grains, and the same 168gr bullets I use.
I am curious what the consensus here is. I will probably keep it either way, as I have a buddy I load 22-250 for. But if I could use it in my .308s that would be great. I understand it burns slowly, but my rifle has a 24" barrel. Might this work for me?
