Does anyone know how long Albany County is taking to process pistol amendments these days? I submitted one 1.5 weeks ago and am wondering if I'll get it before the end of the summer.

I submitted one by mail on 7/27, and was notified (by mail) 9 days later that it was ready, So, for me, only about 5 working-days for approval. Then paid via check and SASE, and am expecting the coupon Wed. or Thursday. Parking around the Albany courthouse is a bitch, but the entire process can be done by mail...I need handicap parking now, non-existent anywhere near Eagle St. But, I'm a frequent-flyer with them and when I retired from LEO job(s), transferred about 20 guns from NYSP "C-Forms" to my personal permit...despite no coupons required, and only one signature needed, it was still a $3/gun fee. I'm not complaining. My permit was issued in 1983 after moving to NYS, and having had a CT carry permit from age 18, back when that was possible.
I was the only one on the UCONN campus with carry ability, so, was first to be questioned following a serial killer's hit, and first to be cleared, despite knowing the victim.

The county runs a fresh DCJS rap sheet for every amendment, but when I routinely ran them at work, response was instant, unless system was down. The NCIC sheet (if requested) can take over an hour for a reply. My sheet
is the typical "arms-length long" of a career criminal, but all entries are civil and not criminal, as I'm an ex-FFL, state dealer, and have numerous agency fingerprint re-submissions, which works in my favor. And having a very unique surname makes a NICS check go through in mere seconds at the dealership.

I file an e4473 from home, and just sign the printed copy at the dealer...in and out in 10 minutes.

Submitting amendment applications by mail is not new...your signature just has to be notarized, rather than being signed by a commissioner of deeds at the clerk's office. Payment ($3.00) can be made by personal check, but only AFTER you are notified amendment is ready for pick-up, and you need to enclose
a SASE for them to mail it to you.

My amendment arrived today, delayed more by USPS than Albany County...signed by Thomas Breslin with no restrictions...but, he may have remembered my absentee vote ballot that tipped an election 20+ years ago, for either him or Mike or Neil Breslin...I had to be deposed and testify that it was, in fact, my signature on the ballot. Very few elections are won by a single vote lead, and it was even newsworthy when it happened. Maybe Karma, or, just his standard procedure...I always include copies of my law-enforcement credentials with an application, including my stint as a Sr. probation officer in Albany County.

I've been using Zack's in Round Lake for transfers lately...yeah, they are overpriced @ $50, but have online e4473 forms which you can complete from home...the place was crowded today, but after it becoming my turn in line, the transfer took 10 minutes...of course, all my paperwork was organized, with my amendment from Justice Breslin in hand, and the 4473 already done. And, since the gun was shipped from out-of-state to Zack's from the importer, I was exempt from NYS sales tax of about $130 on the weapon itself, so, the transfer fee was pocket-change to avoid any delays or inconveniences. The gun was shipped to them with only a packing slip, and no invoice, so appeared to be a zero-cost purchase, except for the tax on the transfer fee, about $3. They run a very efficient operation, and an immaculate store. At least 50 surveillance cameras in use...like a casino...

I know there are FFLs in the Albany area that do $25 transfers, but few go this smoothly...a weekday would have been a better choice to do it, but, I couldn't wait for Tuesday...
