I turned in my permit application 1/29/12 and just received a letter from Otsego County Court to inform me that a hearing is scheduled for 8/6/12 with Judge J.Lambert. Is this normal protocol? I'm a little nervous, not because I have anything to be nervous about but because a couple of my references weren't exactly timely with their responses to questionaires and investigators and i'm afraid their procrastinating has screwed me. Also, is this just a notification that the judge will be making a decision on the application or am I required to attend? It does not say anything about my attendance being required and getting the time off from work could be very difficult for me.

With some counties, this is part of the procedure. Here in Dutchess Co. where I live, there is no meeting with the judge, they just hand you a full carry. Not knowing for sure what the judge will say or ask you, I wouldn't worry about it. Just be honest.
