I live in a village just outside of the city and I'm new to shooting/hunting, I own a 12 gauge and just recently purchased a .30-30. I really want to shoot for practice Hunting season is approaching rather quickly (Oct 20). I haven't really gotten much experience, and I desperately need practice. I have fired my shotgun a few times, however, I have never fired my rifle.

Anyway, does anyone know of and decent spots to take the guns out for a little practice. I can't afford to join a gun club, most of them don't accept guests, and you have to have family to sponsor new members.

Novice - come to the Clinton R&G tomorrow, our dues are only $85.00 for a year of membership we have everything, skeet, 200 yd rifle, pistol, sporting clays, trap and beers in the cooler when you are done shooting. Camden R&G has indoor pistol, skeet, trap etc and their dues are $35.00 and I think 1st time members $40.00. My name is Manny and I will be there tomorrow.

Greenway is also accepting members. We have 100 yard outdoor, 50 foot indoor 4 lane pistol, and an archery tower. Dues are only $40 a year with an additional $40 application fee the first time. We have a meeting Wed. night at 7:30PM, if you are free come over and introduce yourself. Someone will probably step up and sponsor you or you may know someone who is already a member. If you know a member, you can have them bring you to the range as a one day member for $5 so you can shoot on the outdoor range.

I am a current member at deerfield fish and gam we have a 3d archery shooting course, an outdoor pistol range i beleive 50 yrds and a outdoor rifle range that goes out to 200yds about a 10 minute drive up 12 to the poland exit

Look for state forest near you if you really don't want to do the range thing. Though it seems there's lots near you with reasonable fees!

Hmmm I should look into those. especially with indoor pistol. We visit family in Rome and Whitestown and would be nice to "get away" for a lil bit.
I think Id be closest to the Clinton one. Hmmmmmmmm

Do any of these ranges have competitions at any time? Or are they just open shoots all the time?

The Best one for your money is Deerfield range. Reasonable and site is great. No complaints at all.
