Sounds interesting, except for the fact that similar programs were run in Baltimore and Chicago...both have had some of their "interrupters" return to crime. What is really sad is that this program is funded by the DOJ and even with mixed results in 2 other cities, they will try again.
At least this program is actually targeting gang violence...although I disagree with the focus on guns, they should be focusing on using the interrupters to reduce all forms of gang violence - regardless of whether they use guns, knives, or bats. I also like the fact that part of the money is aimed at job training and education - at least part of this program is aimed at fixing the source of the problem instead of the symptoms.
One of my college classes showed a video about Chicago doing the same thing. Actually seemed like it was getting somewhere until the city pulled the plug (seems to be back in business). These programs actually do have an impact for the positive.
