NYC Mayor announces nearly $13 million program for 'violence interrupters'

Sounds interesting, except for the fact that similar programs were run in Baltimore and Chicago...both have had some of their "interrupters" return to crime. What is really sad is that this program is funded by the DOJ and even with mixed results in 2 other cities, they will try again.

At least this program is actually targeting gang violence...although I disagree with the focus on guns, they should be focusing on using the interrupters to reduce all forms of gang violence - regardless of whether they use guns, knives, or bats. I also like the fact that part of the money is aimed at job training and education - at least part of this program is aimed at fixing the source of the problem instead of the symptoms.

"With this initiative, we are creating a focused effort incorporating mental health services, legal services, after-school programs"

I can see the brainwashing now. "OK kids, guns are bad".

"The plan is based on the Cure Violence model, which is designed to treat gun violence as a health care issue."

And so the lovely tie in with Obummercare.

This is their answer? Pay ex gang members? As this comment says, " Do you need any more proof that liberalism is a mental illness?"
