I Just Put my application in yesterday for permit in NYC how long does this whole process take? the clerk told me anywhere from one to six months?

Yes. It took me about 4months for it to come thru. Call after 3months to check on it If it isn't thru yet.
There is a 5 rnd max capacity for long guns, that's 4+1( four in tube and one in chamber for shotguns).
Remington 870's are ok but mossburg's aren't as they are 5+1. Ive Heard of people getting a knock on their door
for purchasing a gun that has over a five round max capacity. I can't confirm that but I'm passing the word anyway.

I have a Mossberg registered and know others who do as well. Also a Rem 700 with 5 round cap, and a 1022 with 5 round mags. The limit is a 5 round magazine, not 4 plus 1. If you purchase a gun that has over 5 rd cap they simply won't register it, so no need to knock on the door.

I submitted my paperwork on April 1st. Clerk told me could be "Up to 18 Weeks". Still waiting...

Thats what I was told when I applied for the permit and when I bought my first shotgun.
The shop where I bought my Remy told me about the home visits of people they sold Mossy's to.

I dropped my app off on 4/2. A guy in my hunting certification class said it took him 10 weeks. i don't know how accurate his statement is, but it made me a bit optimistic... Although my interviewing officer for my handgun license told me flat out that her captain waits until the apps pile up and then signs off on stacks of them at once. I would imagine the Rifle/Shotgun section would have a similar practice.

I'm sorry, but every time i read that title it makes me want to vomit. Permit is bad enough next to pistol or handgun. It shouldn't be next to shotgun, or rifle. Too bad the majority of folks in this country are willing to give up the freedoms it was founded on . . . but then again i'm safer because the politicians made good laws up, that they don't follow..Good luck with the process.
