Good luck. Are you going for premise or carry?
Next step will be notification that an investigator has been assigned. That will take a long time.Hi to all,
I finally got my fingerprints appointment for my NYC premises application after 159 days of having applied! I'll offer a timeline hoping that it could help fellow noobs get some insight on the process (I will update as i have news):
- Applied: Nov 26 2022
- Acknowledgement and fingerprint and interview appointment scheduled: May 4, 2023
- Fingerprint and interview appointment scheduled for: May 19, 2013
I was advised I'm missing some documents, but this seems pretty standard since those docs were not requested when i applied. I should be able to procure those easily.
So, that's all for now! If anyone can shed any light on what i should expect (and, mostly WHEN) after my interview/fingerprints appointment, i'd be grateful to hear!
Thank you all!
Jay
Premises. I figured carry is nearly useless right now, and so slow to process that it isn't worth it. I plan to upgrade eventuallyGood luck. Are you going for premise or carry?
Thanks for sharing, it helps get insight. When you say "That will take a long time" after investigator being assigned: I see your case took about 2mo after that. Do you predict the same here? If so, I think about 2mo is relatively OK comparatively to the 1-2yrs I'm expectingNext step will be notification that an investigator has been assigned. That will take a long time.
Here's my permit journey:
Notes:
- Since 1982 - Long time NYC Premises holder
- June 26 2022 - Applied for Carry after Bruen SCOTUS ruling. Used standard Business Carry application, typed "No Longer Applicable" in the justification section.
- June 30 2022 Received fingerprinting exemption email based on existing permit. Website status changes from Submitted to Investigation.
- Feb 10 2023 Received email - Investigator assigned, asked for various docs to send in, such as 2 reference letters, DMV record, cohab affidavit, etc.
- Feb 17 2023 Emailed all requested documents (10 items)
- Feb 19 2023 Investigator requested an additional cohabitant affidavit from son who lives at home, sent in same day.
- Feb 23 2023 Website status changed to Approved. When I saw this, called Investigator who said wait for letter.
- March 1 2023 Received snailmail "Notice or Application Approval" letter along with a blanket purchase auth and instructions to request an appointment.
- March 4 2023 Emailed back the requested forms, receipts, handgun/safe pictures, requesting appointment to pick up permit.
- March 13 2023 Called 1PP to inquire status, as had not heard from them, No answer, left message.
- March 14 2023 Received email apologizing for delay, and setting appointment for March 30 to pick up permit.
- March 30 2023 - Got it.
Because of when I applied, I was exempted from additional CCIA info (face-to-face interview, 4 letters-reference, social media) as per NYC Emergency Order dated 8/19/2022, but needed to present my 16+2 training certificate for issuance.
A post on a firearms message board that I follow indicated that in February someone at 1PP said they have received 500,000 applications since Bruen/SCOTUS and they are focusing on those who already have Premises permits.
"That will take a long time" - referring to the amount of time it took to get an investigator assigned, which was seven month after I applied. Thanks for sharing, it helps get insight.
