The safety of the NSW Firearms Registry will be investigated over concerns it was hacked and used as a ``shopping list'' for criminals. The government has asked NSW Police for an investigation into the registry's security and ``urgent written advice on what assurances can be given that the NSW Firearms Registry databases have not been compromised''.The investigation was sparked after Shooters and Fishers MP Robert Brown asked Police Minister Michael Gallacher to assure him that the registry was secure*** as it includes the names and addresses of 283,000 gun owners. It followed reports that gun robberies in Tasmania could be attributed to the hacking of the registry there.
