As most know Smith&Wesson has a shooting range in Springfield Mass. At Zack's sports we tell most of the people interested in getting their consealed carry permit to take a drive over to Smith where they allow you pick as many guns as you want and you buy the ammo and you test the guns your interested in.
But about a month ago the range was inspected by the ATF. They found alot of felons shooting at the range, on their arrival they did a check on someone who turned out to be wanted for murder...being that its illegal to do a background check on somebody that isnt purchasing a firearm, smith couldnt have checked on that person, that person had to sign a piece of paper saying they were allowed to legally handle a firearm, thats it... So as of right now Smith and Wesson's shooting range to the public is closed. Their fixing things now and are planning on opening in a few months.

Was the ATF there while the wanted guy was shooting?
It's a bunch of bull$hit because S&W could not have prevented this.

I foresee the ATF doing this to more ranges where you can rent firearms to shoot...

What precipitated the investigation was a local shooting where they found out the shooter had gone to the range to practice and lied on all the waver forms they make you sign.

S&W closed the range themselves and are not being directed by the ATF or anyone else. They are trying to get a better handle on things as well as perform some upgrades.

It sucks that had to happen =\ its nice testing out new guns before the purchase, and the fact that they couldn't do anything to prevent the situation. But hopefully they'll be back to normal in no time.

looks like well working counter-productive, counter-acting laws working at there finest. Complete BS. If there is one firearms people that does their best to serve and help the community while providing top notch firearms its S&W and yet the gov't has to step on their toes when the fault rest solely on BS laws made by novice politicians.

What a joke. They were doing what they were told. Don't go after the people doing the wrong, go after the business trying to upkeep the law.
