Been lurking around for a while and finally decided to pull the trigger (pun intended) and say hello

Currently assembling the necessary 1000-1250 pages of paperwork required for both a NYC premises permit and a NYC rifle/shotgun permit.

The following are what I have been looking at but are not set in stone

Pistol: Springfield armory .40S&W XDS 5.25 competition barrel

Shotgun: Benelli semi auto shotgun (so many to choose from)

Rifle: ????

There are two ranges that I know of in Staten Island both of which seem to be competition oriented based upon the requirements set forth in both of their membership agreements.

Will be taking the NRA approved safety course and plan on becoming a member as well

Any other questions I might have will be placed in the appropriate spots on the sight

Thank for looking at my long winded hello

Lou

Hey Lou, welcome to the site!

I feel your pain with the NYC licenses, but to be perfectly honest, after reading a lot of posts on the site I don't think NYC is the worst place in the state for getting a pistol licence. I have read many pistol license horror stories here, none I can recall from NYC. Just the usual posts about many hoops that NYC makes you jump through (mostly paper work).

In my opinion I would rather do a bunch of paper work and get my licence in 3-6 months than have the problems I have read about, like 18 month waits and no idea what's going on with an application.

As for needing a rifle/shotgun permit, I just can't bring myself to do it. I keep my long arms upstate.

I own a Benelli SuperNova 12guage (pump action, its my turkey/bird gun). Just bought it last year, very well made, quality gun. Lucky too, I shot a nice 20 pound gobbler the same weekend I bought it! I am sure you'll be happy with a Benelli.

A Springfield Armory pistol will be my first as well. A Lightweight Operator 1911 tho. Possibly a XD in the future.

Good luck and enjoy the site!

welcome from long island there arequite a few ranges here to satisfy any gunner and good folks to
i use to live in nyc
Unfortunately we aren't allowed out of the 5 boroughs of NYC with our pistols, unless we have a hunting authorization card and we are going hunting.

Rifles and shotguns are fine though. :hissyfit:

Doesn't some interstate federal clause allow us to transport pistol to and from ranges though? Or does it restrict to NYC only?

If we get zombie targets and are going zombie hunting does that count???? :)

The local ordinance is breaking the national law of right to transport, yes.
I don't want to be the guy to take the city to court over it, though.
You can send your gun through an FFL to another FFL, to transport it out of state. This can cause other hiccups, though, like if the FFL on the other end wants to hit you with a 90 day wait because you're a non-resident.

Will keep everyone posted as I have set up an appointment with one of the gun permit assistance places in the city. Want to have all the ammunition available should my daibetes or stop sign ticket become an issue. I will pass along any information I can gleam from them. and will start my own NYC pistol permit saga in that section when I drop the paperwork off.

It'll be just like star wars with the investigating officer.
They'll ask for my character references and I ll wave my hand and tell them these aren't the character references they require

Obi Wan style

how is it breaking federal transport law? you need to be licensed on both ends or be going to an approved nra functon /range/event. NYC pistol permits are only valid in NYC right? or are they NYS pistol permits with NYC auth?

you can hunt with a pistol in NY why is that not valid for hunting in NY?

not debating just asking to see where the hole is.
