First off my apologies for completely neglecting this and updating with well, everything.
I can honestly say that building on a budget is possible but once you get started the whole budget idea goes out the window once you start looking at the numerous parts available. My original plan was a budget build, $900 being the overall target, well umm yeah refer to the above statement. Besides that I am happy to say that although I did go over it wasnt excessive and I wound up with something that I will still be tweaking and changing here and there but overall I am happy with.
So for the starting part of the project I decided to build on a "complete" dpms lower, with a ace arfx "entry" stock, which will soon have the 1/2in rubber pad removed in favor of the 1in pad. Standard grip which also will soon be swapped out for something more ergonomic. Nothing overly spectacular or noteworthy there yet.
I did get several pm's about the upper half in 7.62, which I was very thankful to get. I looked at each one and checked out all the links, I ultimately went to Model 1 Sales and while I wasnt thrilled with the 6 week lead time at that point I didnt care about the timeframe anymore. I went with their A3 upper w/ forward assist, extended charging handle, and ejection cover. For the barrel I went with a free floated 16in ,1/10 , knurled aluminum hand guard and a railed gas block. I also just decided at that point I would get the carrier assembley from them as well.
Optics I know will change down the road eventually, But for now Im going to use a barska 3x9 x40. It will be ok for this season but next year as funds maybe clear up I will step up to something better..
I havent put any rounds through it yet as I have had no time to get out to the range but I did test for feed issues and loaded a asc 10rd mag and cycled all 10 with no issues. Im hoping there will be no firing problems come this weekend when I go out to the swamps.
Onto the pics....
