Was looking at the 9MM mac 10 and 11. Since we are in NY can we use sten 32 rounds mags even if the gun is not a pre ban. For a rifle we could but i heard its different for handguns.

the firearm has no bearing on what magazine you can use, for anything, handgun, shotgun, or rifle.

The sten mags are preban, that is all the law requires is a preban magazine.

Otherwise - think about it, how do all these guys have the new generation glocks with 17 round mags? Preban mags man, age of the firearm has no bearing, handgun or otherwise.
thanks thats what I was hoping for but one of the local shops said that in order to use a preban mag for handgun, the handgun needs to be pre ban. I just had to double check he was incorrect, since I plan on being a police officer, I cant afford to get into any trouble over gun laws.
Not to be rude to him but if he is going to be running/working at a gunshop he should really learn the laws properly or just not say anything at all, misinformation leads to more problems about what is and isn't legal then actually having an illegal item sometimes. Good luck on your LEO quest.
Be warned if you get the rifle like I did (.45 ACP with side cocker) the thing weights a TON. It is the heavy gun I ever shot. I got rid of it on this forum actually. Well made but heavy. No recoil its so heavy. I got old grease gun mags for it.
thanks for all the help and I agree, people that work in gun shops should learn the laws to some extent and if not they shouldn't be saying whatever their buddy told em.
