I'm looking to buy me first home and was wondering how would you rank these counties? I'm looking for some 2a pros/cons on each I'm a life long resident of Albany County. I've been waiting 7 weeks so far for an amendment to pick up my first hand guns.
Albany
Schenectady
Saratoga
Rensselaer

Move to Fulton County along the Fulton/Saratoga border. Then you will be in the friendliest county in the area.

Of those 4, I would say Saratoga overall is the most 2A friendly by a small bit over Rensselaer. There are certainly parts of Albany and Schenectady that are 2A friendly, but lots of the population lives in the cities and the cities are not 2A friendly. The situation is worst in the city of Albany since lots of properties are actually state owned and have additional regulations. Rensselaer is friendly outside the Troy area, but the city does not dominate county politics nearly as much as Albany and Schenectady. In Saratoga, the city does not have a major influence on politics as much as the others. The more rural areas of Saratoga and Rensselaer are very 2A friendly. Like all of NY state, the farther you are from an incorporated city, the more 2A friendly the environment is.

Move to PA any county along the border is better than any county in NY.

That sounds like a plan, Once my daughter finishes her last year at University of Buffalo I am out of New York. PA sounds like a plan, I need to see what is involved in getting a permit and transferring my guns to a PA residence.

Getting a permit is as simple as walking in and applying, there is no transfer of weapons as PA doesn't register them. go to PA and get your nonresident permit now and then when you move just go to the sherriffs office and change it to a resident permit. You only need a permit in NY if you want to carry concealed you can open carry in PA. No communist licensing requiremnts there.

I liked Saratoga County a lot to do there, from what my brother tells me you'll be waiting a month for each amendment and most licenses are restricted. I moved to Essex County and was able to get my restricted Saratoga County License changed to an unrestricted Essex County License. Amendments are done as quickly as you can bring them to the pistol clerk, tons of public land to shoot on. Unfortunately not a whole lot going on in Essex unless you move near Lake Placid.
