Have a new mossberg 590 coming in on Thursday. Can't wait to get my hands on her. Loved my 500 uplander from back in the day. Anyone have any experience and or stories about the 590? Good or bad would love to hear them.

I don't really have any particular stories about mine. I'm not really a shotgun guy; so though I've owned others in the past, a 590 is actually the only one I currently own. It always does what it's supposed to do and I've never had any problems with it, so that's a good experience I suppose.

I haven't been into shotguns in a long time. Mostly pistols and rifles. But with all the option, it's a good deal for me. Never had an issue with the 500. Do remember shooting with a pistol grip and some heavy loads, ouch.

I keep my 590 pistol grip in my bedroom as my HD gun gun in addition to my pistols. Fine gun. My 2nd Mossberg. The notion that you can't hit targets with a pistol grip only shotgun is pure nonsense, but that may be besides the point, because, did you get a full stock on yours?

Got it with the speedfeed synthetic stock. And yes, you can hit targets quite well with the pistol grip. Was able to keep things up in the air for a while. ;)

I'm fairly certain Mossberg doesn't actually put out any PGO version of the 590. Of course you could do it in the aftermarket, and various versions of the 500 are available in stores as PGO guns, but not the 590.

The 500 i had came with two barrels and two stocks. You where ready to hunt deer or birds and have a short home defense weapon. All for like $300-$400 if my memory still works.

You are fairly incorrect. ;)

I have the American Cruiser. From the factory PGO.

Oh yeah. Googled it, and so it is. It's not in Mossberg's current catalog though. Discontinued maybe ?

EDIT: Actually, the weird thing is that it's Mossberg Item# 50586 which you can find being called the Mossberg 500 Cruiser American in one catalog, but the 590 Cruiser American in another with the same item number. Weird.

I believe it is discontinued.

Another reason i got the 50668 model. The rails look cool and having a light or laser mounted would be practical but getting your thumb hit with some recoil makes you think. It's one of those things you will remember.

I have a Mavrick 88, and 2 Mossberg 500s (one in 20 and one in 12 gauge) all slightly different (like magazine tube lengths and whatnot) and I have no complaints about any of them whatsoever, they always go bang, almost never malfunction, and when they do its either from me not cleaning them like I should, or something stupid like a shall not extracting all the way from the chamber, which is easily fixed with a swat from the right hand and then a pull forwards on the slide.
