The key words in that news account are "high-carbon steel Samurai sword". There are swords - and then there are 'sword-like objects' -- sword-like objects resemble swords, but should never be used as swords. Most cheap swords that you see at gun shows and discount houses are made of stainless steel, and would be considered to be - 'sword-like objects'. NEVER TRY TO USE ONE OF THOSE AS YOU WOULD USE A SWORD.
THESE ARE MADE TO BE WALL-HANGERS AND FOR DECORATION ONLY. Stainless steel is very brittle and breaks easily when used in a sword. If you would like a serious sword, do a lot of research before any purchase, seek out good advise, and receive some serious instruction before ever attempting to use one as a cutting tool. Your life & safety and those nearby are in jeopardy every time you pick up a sword, much like a firearm.
Just a little information for anyone ever considering purchasing a sword, for any reason. A sword is 'always loaded.' Be knowledgeable, be safe.
