MONROE COUNTY ACTION ALERT

ISSUE: Monroe County Parks law that bans all firearms in county parks including licensed concealed carry. SCOPE has been working on this issue for over 6 years trying to get the republican majority in the county legislature to change the law to at least allow concealed carry. Our efforts have been frustrated repeatedly over the years by the leadership of the Republican Party who don't want to tackle any controversial issue.

ACTION NEEDED
On June 12 at the monthly meeting of the Monroe County Legislature 4[SUP]th[/SUP] floor of the County Office building 36 W. Main St. there will be a number of speakers in favor of changing the law. We need a large turnout of gun owners to show up in support of the change.

Additionally, we are asking gun owners to contact Monroe Republican Party leader Bill Reilich at 585-546-8040 asking him to have the Republican majority introduce and bring to the floor for a vote legislation to allow licensed concealed carry in Monroe County Parks. When you call please be polite and courteous. Chances are you will not get to talk directly to Bill Reilich but leave a detailed message. The object here is to get their attention by making it difficult for them to get anything done for answering the phone. And, you can certainly call more than once if you like.

We want this law changed and the only way to have that happen is if a bill is introduced and voted on. We need your support by being at the meeting on June 12 and by making the phone calls to the republican leadership.

THIS IS IMPORTANT, PLEASE MAKE THAT CALL AND BE AT THE MEETING.

Thanks
Ken Mathison

I emailed Bill and got a response.

He basically said he doesn't have anything to do with this because it is a county issue, not a state issue. I will reply to him urging him to use his position of Monroe County Republican Party Chairman to help steer the Republican Legislators to bring it up for vote.
