Hello,

I am looking to apply for non-resident CCW in several states, and Mass is one of them. Has anyone successfully applied for a permit in Mass? I want it mainly for being OK to drive through to get to Maine and NH, and even though technically you should be allowed to drive through without a problem if a firearm is stored legally, I'd rather not even have to worry about it. Thank you for the info.

I live in NYC and applied prior to the decision in Bruen. I received my license but it was months later and after the decision in Bruen.

Mass license is pretty straight forward....you have to take an approved course and submit all the required paperwork. They are not fast...
once you submit the application you will be notified of a date for an appointment for fingerprints/photo...it will be in Chelsea. They also review your basic info, but there is no third degree or interview.

non-residents must renew each year...gun groups are trying to change that, but for now that is the drill. $100/year.

currently there are no 'sensitive location' restrictions like NYS...just the normal stuff [schools, courts, gov't places]....I would suggest you join GOAL...Gun Owners Action League....the real voice of gun owners and 2A issues in Mass. GOAL offers education on Mass gun laws, storage, transportation, restrictions, etc. Their education guy is Jon Green...he is a super. https://www.goal.org/

as for approved training...I suggest you reach out to Rob McDermott, he is in Berkshire County. He has trained 1000's of folks...one of the best in the business.

hope this helps...

Thank you all for the assistance and suggestions. I completed the NRA Basic Pistol course for my CT application, and from what I see, that applies to Mass as well. When I completed my NY application, I paid someone to go over it and make sure it was completed correctly. Does anyone know someone in Mass that does the same? Or CT also for that matter? Thank you..

The NRA Basic Pistol Course does qualify you to apply for a MA license, but the catch is that it must have been conducted by a MA Certified Instructor who also issued a Commonwealth of MA certificate that you’ll need when applying. There is a list of MA Certified Instructors on the Massachusetts Firearms Records Bureau website.

MA no longer issues restricted licenses. The other advice above is certainly accurate.

if you drop me a line at [email protected] I’d be glad to address any questions you might have.
