Im almost certain im going to pick up a marlin 795 VERY soon! Good idea? Bad idea? And why? Id like to get a 10/22 but for $100 more i really can't justify it. It's just a plinker to take out with my big guns to play w in between big bangs. I don't plan on spending a dime in any parts for it just ammo, shoot , and clean. So what do you guys think about em and cheapest place to get one?

Greetings,

I am a fan of the 795, having two Marlin built ones....(pre 2009). I got them for less than 99 dollars after rebates.
I put a red dot on one, dialed it in, and it is very accurate. I bought them new for 125 at Dicks sporting Goods, and also
Sports Authority.

No trigger work, no barrel work, no extra costs, just put ammo in it and shoot. Anything from cheap federal Bulk to CCI
mini-mags work fine.

I did own a 10-22, but sold it to a friend. I have a preference for Marlin 22's. including model60's, 795's, and have old
bolt actions, and a newer 981T Marlin.

Honestly between the plain ol carbine wood 10/22 and 795 I like the 795 better.

It's easier to clean (breakdown was incredibly easy, so is the 10/22 but the 795 is easier IMO), bolt holds open on the last shot, bolt release isn't of stupid like rugers, barrel is thicker.

They both have crap stocks IMO and I think the ruger 10 round magazines are a bit nicer to load and use but other than that I think the 795 is a better stock design than the 10/22. Of course there is way more crap you can do to a 10/22...

Honestly if this was like my main gun like if i didn't an ak and other heavier caliber rifles id love the idea of the 10/22 for aftermarket goodies but i honestly don't see the point of sinking a ton of money into a 22.... and please no one take offense to each their own if 22s are your thing then good for you enjoy, its all what suites you.

I love my 795. I think I got it at Dick's for $145 back in Jan. They were on sale this past week for $129.
It's a nice little gun, and shoots well. If you go iron sights, I'd replace the stock ones with Williams Firesights (what I did), or TecSights ( a lot of people like those).
I've got a scope on it now, and I can hit reasonably well out to 200 yds with it (think I'm the limiting factor there).
It's a fun little gun to shoot, and as others mentioned above, has some nice features.

I got my 795 from Gander last November for $150, saw it in a dick's catalog for $125 + a $25 rebate making it $100. Brought the flyer and reciept into Gander and the lady behind the counter must have overlooked the $25 mail in rebate part, she gave me $50 back. I then mailed in the rebate and ended up paying $75 total for a brand new 795. And I couldn't be happier, even if I had paid $150 for it I really like this little .22.

If you make it into dutchess county at all, I have a beautiful marlin 60SB with 3x9-32 scope in really great condition. I could make a deal if you come here. I'd throw in 600 rnds of recently purchased ammo. PM if interested

I think Dicks is having another sale starting the 7th on marlin and remmington in the form of either a gift card or a rebate (can't remember).

Just got the flyer in the mail. Looks like the gift card is for either $20 on a $200-$499 marlin/rem purchase, or $50 on a $500+ marlin/rem purchase.
The sale price for the 795 will be $139, so doesn't look like it'll qualify.

Looks like some nice deals on shotguns, especially with the gift cards and Remington rebates.

I have seen them at Dick's on sale for $129 ... or maybe that was Wallyworld. I have two 795's... can't say a bad thing about it other than the stock is alittle narrow in the front but not a huge deal. Accurate as anything and ... well ... had one at the range when Wildman was there .. he saw the 30rd 1" hole it put in the target. ;)

oh one more thing ... expect a few hiccups for FTF which cause a FTE until the mag gets worn in. Once it does ... you're good to go with no issues and stay away from Winchester ammo!!!
