They were in checked baggage and he had to surrender them even after the brilliant agents determined that they were not real. I call that theft.

rarely do you have to surrender things unless its illegal. More like the TSA said, sorry these cant fly even though they are fake, but you can ship them. 99.99999% of the time you should be and you are, given that choice. Short of shipping real explosives, or drugs that are found, you can always surrender things that are not approved to go.

Huge difference between surrendering, which is voluntary, and confiscation.

People surrender stuff trying to get through non-approved items at the checkpoints all the time. Instead of putting the stuff in the checked baggage, or shipping it, they choose to surrender it.

I know it's dumb. It's the govt. You can't try and figure them out as their decisions are without logic 98% the time

TSA is a waste of $$$. Its like all the rejects from a local police academy got together and said lets find a job...
