I'm looking to re-finish a couple of pre-ban mags I have. However, I'm concerned about putting paint on it and having it not function correctly in the magwell. I'm planning on using Brownell's Alumahyde II. Was wondering if anyone knew of a better brand to use, or had any experience with Brownell's on it.

Either do a light coat on the part that goes in the mag well or don't touch that part at all.
Ive used krylon on many mags. A light cost is ok, a heavy coat will make it bind up

Thats what I'm afraid of. How high up would you go on the mag? And how 'light' would you go?

since we need our pre bans for just about forever, why not look into duracoating

I've used it for external parts, such as stocks, which was great, but it seems a bit thick for a magazine to me personally.

i have a few that were used on mags, have not had a problem at all. all fall free from my bushmaster ar no problem. ill be picking up a All Star lower on the 10th ill report back and see if they fall out of that too.

The AST lowers are great stuff; I used one of their billet lowers for my build. I'm thinking of leaning towards the Alumahyde, but let me know how the Duracoat plays with the lower.

i just purchased duracoat one because it matches better IMO and its seems much more durable, i have used krylon but don't really care for it. i plan on spraying it sparingly on the upper part of the magazine.

Hell no I didn't think you were fibbin....LOL....It was everything you said it was and I am very pleased on how they came out,it was worth the extra few bucks it cost me over the alternatives out there....

Cool, cool.

If you've some left hit your buffer spring(s).
Works sex on that too unless the receiver extension is super rough on the inside and just scrubs it off.

Hammer face, hammer and trigger pivot pins and springs, and body of selector lever would all benifit from it also.

For less conventional stuff, it can be used on smal engine piston skirts (after the rings have been bedded in), internal of the rod big end on same along with crank bearing/bushings in the block, control cables (speedometer, throttle control, choke, stuff like that), wheel axle bolts on push mowers, and many other applications that can be come up with using a bit of imagineering.

Think of it like for places where a very durable and luberous(?) coating that won't wash off the first time its exposed to water/oil/carb cleaner/whatever would be neccisary for it to work well.
(tool box drawer slides would be an utter waste, the exposed ram on a snow plow hydraulic system wouldn't IOW)
