This might be an old subject that has been discussed, but I did do a quick search and didn't find much. Given we're already mostly a community of locals (NYS), what about forming some sort of even more local factions of said NYS master group? I'm not talking about craziness and forming a survival group. I'm talking about a "get to know your 'neighbors'" type of thing. It would be nice to at least be aware of our surrounding fellow forum members to know where we are in relation to everyone else.

Of course no obligation to contribute or whatever, but knowing ole farmer Joe in Putnam Co. with his 10 acres of farmland might come in handy at some point...

Ideas? Thoughts? Concerns? Am I watching too much Doomsday Preppers?

It is one thing when members of a forum such as this eventually meet over the common interest of firearms and truly get to know each other and become friends but to go out and advertise this "Local groups/factions for SHTF or general support" can just bring the wrong attention to yourself

Yup "get to know your neighbors" sounds like trouble to me. But what do I know I'm just a crazy extremist.

Still not understanding why you believe this, even after Gunsick asked you blatantly. I don't have a problem with your opinion, but I'd like to at least understand where you're coming from.

I believe I did answer his direct question with a direct answer. You asked for advice I gave mine take it or leave it. And it has noting to do with" meeting your neighbors" which is always a good thing..well usually a good thing

I've met a few peeps here, all have been solid individuals. I have their backs for sure.

I've shared my plans and some have shared theirs. I think we noted the intersections, but haven't come to plan consolidation of any kind. It takes a while, for me at least, to put my life in someone else's hands.

Relax, killer. I was just trying to understand. No need for the 'tude! We're all friends here, aren't we? :D

That's a very vague "direct answer," in my opinion. I was asking for a bit more detail. That's all. My fault if I wasn't clear on my request.

Actually no "Tude" intended. All I am saying is be carful who you let into your life. Many good people have learned this lesion the hard way since Al Gore invented the internet thingy. Now put this "Local groups/factions for SHTF or general support" in context with the following:

1)Your gov considers such activity to be a sign of domestic terrorism (like it or not) even though it is as American as mom and apple pie.

2) There really are nut jobs out there.

Just because you may be a good guy with pure intent doesn't mean those who answer your call on the net are, although I will admit most probably are but it only takes one wrong association intended or not to turn your life upside down.

So now ask yourself again what the wrong attention may be.

If you're not being watched, you're not doing something right.

No need to ask myself; you provided a clear explanation of your opinion. Thanks for that.

I've met several members at the Adirondack camp out earlier this summer. The members that I met were all pretty normal, there didn't seem to be any psychos in the bunch. I don't believe there were any domestic terrorists in the group, we just camped and did some shooting. I met some fine folks, and I wouldn't hesitate to meet with them again. If there's a concern about meeting someone from the internet, meet with them initially in a public place, and be discreet in your conversations.

Personally, I think Shoot2much's suggestion is fine. It's always nice to get to know like minded folks.

Yup, ya got me on this one. But, to some on here, it's still porn considering their foot fetishes which is exactly why meeting people on the Internet can be dangerous.

Meet in a public place, don't drink anything that you didn't see come from a sealed bottle and if a member here buys you a meal remember it doesn't mean you "owe" them anything.

On that note, I'm always down to meet fellow members.

Things aren't always what they seem to be!

So I don't owe you any intimacy if you buy me a beer?

There's a big difference between meeting each other for a beer or a camping trip, and showing people where exactly I will go and my plans for a true SHTF scenario. I've got no problem talking about it and helping people with skills and ideas, but I won't be inviting people to my bug out location. If I trust you enough with that information, you'll know. The only person on this forum that I trust that much has known me for almost 25 years.
