The only things that are AWB illegal are Semi-automatic firearms. An upper with evil features is not a semi-automatic firearm.

this is a in nys question.............you have one pre ban ar and one post ban ar.......... both are complete guns can you legally have an EXTRA assembled complete upper with a flash suppressor sitting around and not be breaking any laws?

Body of the magazine is the illegal part.What about a pmag with the floor plate in your pocket?
There is nothing illegal about an upper with evil features.
