No, each dept does their own background check on you. The hiring process can take up to several months, I think you're rushing it a bit. Worry about one thing at a time, like passing your physical first.

I seriously considered becoming a CO in the early 80's. Took the test and then spoke with several friends who were CO's. Of the maybe 10 or so guys I know who got into corrections, only 2 lasted long enough to retire. Several quit after a couple years, the others are all on disablity now because of the beatings the took from inmates. I am glad my friends talked me out of it. If you take the job you have to realize you will be nose deep in crap your whole shift. You will go in knowing you can't trust the inmates. You wil learn quickly there will be very few, if any, CO's you will be able to trust.

While I was never a CO, this has been something every one of the CO's I know has said. If one or 2 were to say it, I would have just writen it off. When 20 or more say it, then I tend to think there is more than a little truth to it. If that offends you, too bad.
What offends me is someone who admittedly has not been a CO,
spouting sh!t about all CO's that he's never met because he "heard" something.

Spoken like a clueless idiot who knows someone who knows someones uncles brothers aunts sister's third cousin who was a CO , Clancy, you have no right to comment on something you know NOTHING about, and your buddy CO's would probably be pretty upset if they knew you were twisting words and stories from them, get a grip, walk an hour in our shoes, learn that the ONLY people you have to trust behind the wall is your brother's and sister's in blue, my life and theirs depends on it, there are bad apples in every bunch, but to make a statement like you did is just plain moronic, I for one am glad you are not a CO, because people like you are the bad apples who make crap up to instigate a fight between officer's, PS, thanks for NOT being a CO, and if that offends you, TOO BAD!!!

Wow, someone pee in your corn flake this morning? If my relaying information that more than a few friends have told me, too bad. You sound like a Cuomo fanboyif you think only you have a right to make a comment on something, but I gues that' the way it goes. as far as twisting stories, i didn't twist a thing, only stated what I was told. When I have friends tell me they have to constantly worry about getting ratted out by their coworkers for anything and everything, that they are constantly concerned about being backed up when the SHTF, well, if you take that personal you need to look at yourself.

But go ahead, insult me all you want. The anonymity of the computer screen tends to make peopel brave.

Remember one thing common sense, nobody can teach you that. A con's a con and will try and beat you any chance he gets. You will have to trust your brother officers because you need each other but that takes time and trust all around. Don't walk in the door like you know everything because you don't know $hit. Listen to the old guys they've been around, forget about 99% of what you learn in the academy. Keep your eyes and ears open and watch your back. Also when you come home from work and your wife asks about your day just tell her it was another quit day. Kevin

LOL, yup, you missed it, The point was you should keep your mouth shut about what we do behind the walls, regardless of your friends and their stories, you have NO right to give someone advice or "information" about our job through what you hear, Do you not understand that?? It would be like me telling someone all about how your job is and what it's like even though I have NEVER been in your shoes, Oh, let me guess, you stayed at a Holiday Inn express last night so now you are a CO, nice try on calling me a Cuomo fanboy, try to bring the conversation to that level, give me a break, this is off topic, has nothing to do with Cuomo, but if I was grabbing at straws to not look like a goof I guess I would bring up something irrelevant also.... stop spreading information when you are uninformed, simple as that, no more, no less, I don't need to be anonymous to insult you, because I would tell this to your face like I have many others.... It's not about being brave, it's about preventing people like you giving false views of us.. Just know that if you were a CO and SHTF, I'm on your side no matter what, we can be the biggest enemies outside the gate, but inside, we are best friends who's lives count on each other, PS, your buddies need to transfer jails if it's that bad...

Hello,
I'm a NYS DOC candidate, I completed hiring process and received the medical clearance letter. This was about five months ago, I also had the oral psych test five months ago. I haven't heard anything since then.
Does anyone know if you receive a letter notifying you that you have passed the oral psych? Would they have notified me if i got A DQ by know?
