Happened last night around 2300. They caught the guy this morning around 0500. Thankfully it sounds like the officer will be ok.

Ithaca police officer has surgery after being shot; suspect in custody - NewsChannel 9 WSYR

An Ithaca police officer is undergoing surgery after being shot in the shoulder Thursday night. Police say a suspect is in custody.

Ithaca police say Anthony Augustine, a 5-year veteran of the force, attempted to stop a stolen vehicle around 11:00 p.m. in the West Hill area of the city.

The driver fled the vehicle and there was a foot chase, police said.

While approaching the suspect, police say Augustine was shot.

He was shot with a 9mm in the shoulder where his vest didn't cover. Transported by helicopter to Upstate for surgery, for a non-life threatening injury.

Sucks the cop didn't shoot him right back and score a headshot.

Shooting at the police after YOU have done something wrong makes as much sense and beating a plumber with a pipe while he is fixing your sink.

SO, he shot a LEO and then went back to town and got a hotel room a year later??? LEO's always say that they never stop checking for someone where the crime happened no matter how much time goes by. Now I understand why. Idiot shoots a cop, Idiot returns to the area. Glad he was an idiot the second time so the officers in Ithaca got the pleasure of arresting him.

Here's a more in depth story on the shooting. He's 22 and has been arrested 11 times.

I live in Horseheads and work in Lansing. Up by the Ithaca airport. The only reason I ever come to Ithaca is because I have to travel through the city to get to work and get home. I don't spend any more time there than what is necessary.

I personally know of a 23 year old guy who is gong to get back out of jail very soon, been in and out for drug dealing and fighting and more recently trying multiple times to kill my girlfriends sister, choking her to within an inch of her life and this last recent time, cutting her throat wide open with a knife.

I will admit he is also part of the reason I really want my pistol permit as he has made threats against my girlfriend as well, and he seems to have a knack to finding out peoples addresses. People like him should not be allowed out, the fact that he is still breathing stresses me out especially since he is getting out soon.

This is a prime example of failures in the legal system. For one, this animal should have been locked away in jail. But no, early release, probation etc strikes again. Secondly, this is yet another example of how new gun legislation does absolutely nothing. The guy didn't have the gun legally! Thirdly, let's assume that they didn't capture this dirtbag. Let's also assume microstamping was in full effect. How in the **** would it solve this crime? Oh wait, it wouldn't.
