Greene Rod and Gun Club will be hosting an intro to shotgun for new/novice shooters on Sunday Aug 10th.

This is a first come first served event starting at 9am. This is one of several intro to shotgun events in Chenango County, one at each club.

Made possible by a grant from the NRA foundation. There will be at least two shotguns available if the new shooter does not already have one. One is a 12 gauge 870 Remington pump action. The other is a 12 gauge 1100 Remington semi-auto. I plan to bring a 20 gauge side by side on loan from a friend. Choice of ammo in 12 or 20 gauge.

There will be enough ammo for 20 shooters to shoot 2 rounds of 25. If we have more than 20 shooters show up, then it will be some combination of some may shoot 2 rounds and others shoot 1 round.

Greene Rod & Gun Club

This is something new for this year, so hopefully this turns into an annual event.
8-5 printed some signs to put up around town.

I'm going to check with my youngest Son and see what his schedule is for Sunday, he works as a Lifeguard during the Summer but if he has Sunday off, I'll bring him over. I think he will really enjoy this!
I feel really blessed to have such GREAT clubs and GREAT people to offer things like this and other events in proximity to me!
BIG Thank you to Jeff and all the others for all the hard work and resources you put into your Club. It does not go unnoticed!

I would donate money to let non-shooters shoot at a event like this.... Northern Westchester does ladies shoot for free as well, which is also a cool thing.

We need more events like this to show that we are not some crazy gun nuts, but just fun loving normal people.

Put up some 11x17 signs at the Chenango County fair last night. I hope some more families will see it. I plan to give one last verbal reminder during our shooter briefing meeting tomorrow morning at IDPA shoot.

Reminder of Intro to Shotgun shoot this coming Sunday Aug 9th. I will plan to also set up a pair of 42" pepper poppers with bird flipper attachment to toss a bird in the air when the steel falls. I know Bruce really wants to be able to shoot the 5-stand.

Please let us know how this turns out. We tried this several years ago at our club, as an incentive for people to get involved with trap shooting. We offered a couple rounds of free trap shooting, some basic instruction to those unfamiliar with 16 yard trap, AND A FREE LUNCH. --NOBODY CAME.

It wasn't a total loss. You and I had a nice quiet lunch. :(

5th try to reply, crashed 4 times at work, but now I am home.

We were pleased with the turnout. Roughly double the people we had last year. We only had two teenage boys, but we had several young men that appeared to be in the 20 to 30 year old range and all new to the club. Several purchased memberships. My oldest daughter Rachel participated. I asked her to take some pics and share them with me. I'll get them from her and select a few to post here. We had both trap fields going and I even assembled one of our two 42" steel pepper poppers with clay bird flipper. A bunch of the guys had a good time shooting at that. I spend some time in the morning applying a fresh layer of white lithium grease to our steel pattern board and rolled it smooth with a paint roller, but nobody shot at it. My daughter got cold feet at the last minute and almost backed out since she did not want to injure her shoulder and miss work. Harry talked her into shooting his Browning over under with ported barrel. She shot once and I asked if she wanted to shoot some more and she said yes! She finished the first box of 25 and most of the second box. She even worked up the nerve to shoot my 12 gauge 870 and hit three in a row! We were on the grass about halfway between the 16 yard line and the trap house. Later she shot my 870 at the pepper popper and hit the bird that popped up!
