Sorry to hear about the passing of your son. No o e should have to bury a child. Best of luck with everything and trauma is correct. I would look into fixing the magazine to make it compliant. Also if you go through an FFL you will need the new semi auto license to transfer it but I’m sure your son gifted you this firearm prior to 9/4/022 so it’s perfectly fine for you to just drive to CT with a mag lock and drive it back to NYS. Hint hint.

Then if you do not have a pistol permit and semi auto rifle permit you will have to do that first prior to taking possession of them from and FFL in NYS. I’m not sure what county your in but this can be lengthy and expensive.
What I would do is see if the police will transfer them to an FFL in CT that you have spoken to. If a long gun is legal in your home state you don’t have to transfer it via FFL in NYS. See if that ffl will make it a fixed mag and transfer it in CT. I doubt it will work that way.
Sorry you have to go through this BS to get property that should be rightfully yours. Why the hell did they confiscate private property in the first place? I’m assuming they will not hand the rifle over to you?
