I purchased a pound of IMR-4198 intending to start my rifle reloading with 7.62x39. I'm now considering starting with .30-06 instead. I'm looking to load 150gr target and hunting loads for use in a Remington 700 or Winchester Model 70.

Neither IMR/Hodgdon or Lyman's 49th list any 4198 loads for .30-06, but I found this online (among other discussions):

6 loads available in .30-06 Springfield with powder equal IMR 4198

Is that site reputable? Does anyone else load .30-06 with this powder?

That's sort of my goal. I'm finding data for cast boolits with this powder. If that's acceptable, I'll start with that. It's only 1lb anyway.

It should be ok for reduced loads with cast boolits.
Be sure and use a filler to keep powder against the primer, filler such as polyester pillow filler you can get at sewing shop or craft shops.

I ordered my dies last night before bed. Xtreme Bullets has 165gr cast rifle bullets which I Lyman has 4198 data for. I'll practice with them before getting more powder and moving on to hunting rounds. Has anyone used lead bullets in a Garand? I figure I can load for that also since it requires reduced loads.

Thanks for your input.
